Chef Shawn Heywood is the Executive Chef and Kitchen Manager at Norgarden and our sister building The Peninsula. Chef Shawn received his Red Seal Certificate in 1999 and has been working his culinary magic for over 20 years in a wide variety of establishments. Shawn has been with The Peninsula since 2005.

A local Sidney resident, Chef Shawn works with local and seasonal ingredients as often as possible to ensure that his team creates the freshest and most flavourful dishes. All of our meals are cooked in house from scratch, right down to our soup stocks and freshly baked breads. Shawn’s diverse background translates into a truly varied and exciting menu choices for residents of our independent living community.

Dining service includes a continental breakfast and three-course dinner and can be customized to satisfy a wide range of dietary considerations. A variety of dishes are offered at each meal to ensure every palate is satisfied

Sample Menu

AAA Black Angus Prime Rib

Rubbed with a unique blend of spices, hand carved and served with horse radish and red wine au jus. Accompanied by a delectable Yorkshire pudding roasted potatoes and seasonal vegetables.

Fresh shucked Fanny Bay Oysters

Rolled in seasoned flour, breaded and pan seared to a golden brown then finished with a Creole mustard béarnaise sauce. Accompanied by rice pilaf and seasonal vegetables.

Charbroiled Key West Chicken Breast

Piled high with a refreshing tropical fruit salsa. Accompanied by the potato of the day and seasonal vegetables.

Peanut Buster Parfait

For the peanut butter lover in all of us. Chocolate brownie bottom, smooth vanilla pudding and cream cheese peanut butter filling, topped with a peanut butter icing sugar scramble.

Key Lime Pie

Created with the juice and zest of Florida Key Limes, nestled on a graham wafer coconut crust.
